How we are funded
Affiliate disclosure
Some outbound links on this site are commercial. Here is exactly what that means and what it does not change.
Last updated August 2026
The short version
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you open an account or complete a transaction after following one, we may receive a fee from that company. You pay nothing extra, and the price you get is the same as if you had typed the address yourself.
That is how this site is funded. There is no paywall, no subscription and no advertising network.
What it does not change
Commercial arrangements do not affect our assessments, our rankings, our published fee data or what we are willing to say about a company.
The clearest evidence of that is on the site itself. We publish that instant-buy widgets cost one to three percent more than order books at the same platform. We publish that crypto held on any exchange, however licensed, carries no FDIC or SIPC protection. We publish the fee ranges crypto kiosk operators charge, including a regulator's allegation of undisclosed charges of up to 26% at one national network. We repeatedly recommend moving holdings off exchanges into self-custody.
None of that is what a commercial partner would write. It is what we think is true.
How links are marked
Every outbound link on this site — commercial or not — carries rel="nofollow noopener"
and opens in a new tab. That applies to partner links, operator websites, regulator sites and
everything else. We do not pass ranking signals to any external site.
Pages carrying a commercial link say so, and this disclosure is linked in the footer of every page on the site.
What we will not sell
- Rankings or placement in a comparison.
- A positive review, or the softening of a negative one.
- Removal of unfavourable but accurate information.
- Editorial coverage of a token, project or investment.
- "Sponsored" articles designed to read as independent editorial.
- Links from within editorial text presented as recommendations when they are advertisements.
We receive these requests. They get a polite no.
Why we recommend what we recommend
Where this site points readers toward a specific platform, the reasoning is set out openly: it holds a Pennsylvania Money Transmitter Licence issued by the Department of Banking and Securities, it is a FinCEN-registered Money Services Business, and it is licensed across all 50 states and D.C. under a published NMLS ID.
Those are not claims you have to take from us. Every one is checkable, free, in a public database, in about ninety seconds:
- NMLS Consumer Access — state money transmitter licences
- FinCEN MSB registrant search — federal registration
- PA Department of Banking and Securities — enforcement actions and complaints
We would rather you verified it than trusted us. That is the entire point of publishing the numbers.
Not a recommendation to invest
A link to a licensed platform is not advice to buy cryptocurrency, and nothing on this site is a recommendation that you should. Digital assets are volatile and largely uninsured, and you can lose the entire amount you put in.
We are not a broker, an exchange or a licensed investment adviser, and we cannot give personalised financial advice. See our disclaimer and editorial policy.
